PESO Announces Online Exam for Recruitment of Competent Persons

The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) is offering online written exams to qualify individuals as “Competent Persons” under Petroleum Rules (2002) and Static & Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules (2016). The application window for this examination will be from June 18, 2024 to July 17, 2024.

Goa SPCB Directs Continuous Monitoring In Industries & Other Establishments

According to GSPCB directions, steel plants in the Red & Orange Category must install Online Continuous Stack Emission Monitoring Systems(OCEMS) and Continuous Ambient Air Monitoring stations by 31st August 2024. Additionally, industries, establishments, hotels, common STPs, commercial establishments, residential complexes, and educational institutions with ETPs of 50 KLD and above, and STPs of 100 KLD and above, must install an online water quality monitoring system by 31st August 2024.

Ammonium Nitrate Bags to Get Barcodes for Enhanced Tracking

The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) has announced an order aimed at strengthening security measures for Ammonium Nitrate. It has mandated that each bag containing Ammonium Nitrate must be marked with the identification number of the package or bar coding.

Mandatory Tracking for Non-Toxic Cylinders

The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) has issued an order mandating the compliance with the requirement that each non-toxic and non-flammable gas cylinder be be marked with a barcode or QR code for tracking purposes. The order applies to all entities involved in the lifecycle of high-pressure cylinders such as manufacturers, importers, fillers and traders.

Union Health Ministry Emphasizes Fire Safety in Hospitals

States and UTs must conduct routine assessments to identify potential fire hazards. They shall conduct regular fire drills to familiarize staff and patients with evacuation routes and safety protocols. Hospitals shall also implement fire safety plans.

Clarifications Issued on Battery Recycling and Labeling Requirements

The requirement for “minimum use of domestically recycled materials” in battery manufacturing applies to any type of material obtained from recycling waste products within India. For imported batteries or battery packs, the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration number can be displayed on either the equipment containing the battery or the packaging of the equipment containing the battery.

Extended Deadline for Battery Recycling Compliance and Reporting

Batteries covered under the 21 products listed in Schedule I of the old E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016, will follow the compliance timelines set under those rules for FY 2022-23. Compliance targets for all other batteries placed on the market in FY 2022-23 will be June 30, 2024.
