This report was generated for December 17, 2023 at 4 PM. The latest Air Quality Index (AQI) readings for various cities and towns have been released indicating a diverse range of air quality conditions.
IIT, Madras to Assess The Oil Spillage in Ennore
Government of Tamil Nadu has roped in the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai to rapidly assess the quantum of oil spillage and area affected in Ennore Creek area. The experts from the IITM have started the work. They will be using latest technology Like Drones for assessing this work. The mitigation work is in full swing in the Ennore creek area and affected villages.

Clarification regarding E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022
Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) advised State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) /Pollution Control Committees (PCCs) to carry out regular drives for checking e-waste processing in informal sector time to time. Actions, such as, constitution of teams for carrying out drives, issuing of notices, closure of operation, seizing the e-waste against the informal processing are being taken by the respective SPCBs/PCCs. CPCB has estimated generation of e-waste based on the sales data and average life of notified EEE.
75 Boats and 300 Personnel deployed for oil spillage mitigation work in Ennore
Oil boomers were put in place to contain the spread of oil. An Oil skimmer machine was pressed into service today to extract oil from the creek. Four more oil skimmers are planned to be deployed in the next two days. In order to speed up the mitigation work, 75 boats and 300 personnel have been pressed into service.
