BIS Revises Standards for Metals, Textiles, Shoes, Boiler Water Treatment

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced certain standards for BIS Revises Standards for Metals, Textiles, Shoes Boiler Water Treatment. These notifications were published on January 16, 2024. These standards have been established on January 13, 2024. The previous versions of these standards shall stand withdrawn on April 13, 2024 or July 13, 2024 as the case may be.

Standardized Development and Building Regulations, 2023

Guidelines on Management of Pyro-metallurgical Slags

The guidelines also outline specific areas where iron and steel slags can be used, such as cement production, aggregate in cement-concrete, and construction of roads and railways. Iron and Steel plants intending to use slag for other purposes are required to submit proposals to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) through the respective State Pollution Control Boards (SPCB) or Pollution Control Committees (PCC).

BIS Revises Standards for Food Processing and Engineering of Pneumatic Tools and Machines

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has revised certain standards for Package Units, Coffee Seed Storage, Methods for Sensory Evaluation, Hygienic Conditions for Sugar Factories and Preferred Pressures for Pneumatic Tools and Machines. This notification was published on November 30, 2023. All of these standards have been established on November 21, 2023.

Blending of Compressed Bio-Gas in CNG (Transport) & PNG (Domestic) Segments

The Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs has announced the introduction of the CBG Blending Obligation (CBO). The CBO aims to stimulate demand for CBG in the City Gas Distribution (CGD) sector, with a focus on mandatory blending in the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) transport and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) domestic segments.

Report on Domestic Manufacturing of Heavy Machinery

The committee recommended standardization of equipment to promote domestic manufacturing, urging Captive/Commercial Mine operators and contractors to prioritize indigenous equipment. Tender clauses are proposed to align with the “Make in India” mission, promoting the use of domestically manufactured equipment. To incentivize manufacturers, the committee suggested a scheme to encourage the design, development, and production of equipment in India for five years under the “Make in India” initiative.
