ICAR celebrates 95th Foundation and Technology Day
The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare acknowledged the historic journey of ICAR and its significant accomplishments over the past 94 years. The Minister highlighted the promotion of new agricultural technologies through various mission programs, supported by the Prime Minister, for the benefit of farmers.
Draft Environment (Utilisation of Crop residue by Thermal Power Plants) Rules,2023
The rules mandate the use of crop residue by thermal power plants in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas. According to the rules, all coal-based thermal power plants operated by power generation utilities will be required to use a minimum of 5% percent blend of pellets or briquettes made from crop residue in conjunction with coal.
Vegetable Oils Grading and Marking (Amendment) Rules, 2023
The rules aim to update and refine the regulations governing the grading and marking of vegetable oils. The new rule stipulates that vegetable oils intended for domestic trade must adhere to restrictions regarding residual levels of metal contaminants, pesticide residues, microbial requirements, crop contaminants, naturally occurring toxic substances, and other food safety requirements.
Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launches BHARAT under Agri Infra Fund
This month-long campaign aimed at raising funds of Rs 7200 crore for agricultural infrastructure projects was launched via a video conference attended by over 100 banking executives. Banks were advised to conduct a thorough assessment of the impact of the projects created under the scheme at the ground level.
National Fish Farmers Day Meet – 2023
During the event, beneficiaries from various states and Union Territories had the opportunity to share their field-level experiences and interact with the Union Minister. They highlighted their issues and expressed their appreciation for the remarkable contributions made by the PMMSY scheme and the introduction of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) in the lives of fishermen and fish farmers.
Multi-Source Edible Oils Grading and Marking Rules, 2023
The government has mandated the use of a Grade Designation Mark, referred to as the “AGMARK Insignia,” for all packaged Multi-Source Edible Oils. The Agricultural Marketing Adviser or authorized officers are responsible for approving the manner in which the Grade Designation Mark is affixed to or printed on each package.
Government revises Crop Residue Management Guidelines
As per the revised guidelines, techno-commercial pilot projects for Paddy Straw Supply Chain will be established under the bilateral agreement between the Beneficiary/Aggregator (Farmers, rural entrepreneurs, Cooperative Societies of Farmers, Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Panchayats) and Industries utilizing the paddy straw.

CCEA Approves Special Package of Schemes for Farmers
One of the key components of the package is the continuation of the urea subsidy scheme, which ensures the availability of urea to farmers at a fixed price of Rs 266.70 per 45 kg bag, excluding taxes and neem coating charges.
Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying launches “Report Fish Disease” App
The farmers using this app will be able to connect directly to district fisheries officers and scientists. The Farmers and stakeholders can make self-reporting of diseases of finfish, shrimps and molluscs on their farms through this app for which scientific technical assistance will be provided through the same App by scientists/ Experts to the farmers.
