Bureau of Indian Standards Withdraws Two Key Indian Standards

On December 11th 2024 , in a significant development, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, has announced the cancellation and withdrawal of two important Indian standards, effective from 9th December 2024.

This decision was made in accordance with the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018, as outlined in Sub-rule (1) of Rule (15).

Affected Standards:

IS 2407 – 1963: This standard, which pertains to the Specification for Photometric Integrators, is now officially withdrawn. Photometric integrators, essential devices used to measure the light distribution from various light sources, will no longer be regulated under this standard.

IS 11980 – 1987: The Specification for Lamp (Bulb) for Cycle Dynamo has also been canceled. This standard covered the design and performance criteria for lamps used with cycle dynamos, which convert mechanical energy into electrical energy for lighting.

    Why Is This Important

The withdrawal of these standards marks a shift in the regulatory framework for these specific products. Industries relying on these standards for product manufacturing or certification will need to adapt to new guidelines or replacements that may be introduced by BIS or other regulatory bodies in the future. The cancellation could also indicate advancements or changes in technology, rendering the old standards obsolete.
