BIS Revises Standards for Power Transformers, Forceps, Tobacco Products and Cigarettes

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced certain standards for Power Transformers, Forceps, Tobacco Products and Cigarettes. These notifications were published on January 2, 2024.

Some of the revised standards are as follows:

  • Power Transformers Part 16 Transformers for Wind Turbine Applications (First Revision)
  • Conjunctival Suture Forceps (Moorfield’s Pattern) — Specification (First Revision)
  • Ballistic Galvanometers — Specification (First Revision)
  • Plugs and Keys for Resistance Boxes — Specification (First Revision)
  • Bridge Insulations Testers (Magneto Generator Type) — Specification (First Revision)
  • Secondary Cells and Batteries for Solar Photovoltaic Application — General Requirements and Methods of Test (First Revision)

These standards have been established on December 27, 2023 and their previous versions will stand withdrawn from March 27, 2024.

BIS has also introduced/ revised the following standards:

  • Conditions for Processed Meat Products— Hygienic Code of Practice (First Revision)
  • Tobacco and Tobacco Products —Atmosphere for Conditioning and Testing (First Revision)
  • Tobacco and Tobacco Products —Determination of Tobacco-Specific Nitrosamines in Tobacco Products — Method Using LC-MS/MS
  • Cigarettes — Determination of Tobacco-Specific Nitrosamines in Mainstream Cigarette Smoke — Method Using LC-MS/MS
  • Cigarettes — Determination of the Smoke Condensate Retention Index of a Filter — Direct Spectrometric Method

All of the above standards stand established on December 13, 2023. Their previous versions, if any, stand withdrawn from January 13, 2024.
