BIS Revises Standards for Plugs and Sockets, IVD Devices and Gas Cylinders

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced certain standards for Plugs and Sockets, IVD Devices and Gas Cylinders. These notifications were published on January 2, 2024.

Some of the revised standards are as follows:

  • Plugs and Sockets-Outlets for Household and Similar Purposes of Rated Voltage up to and Including 250 V and Rated Current up to and Including 16 A — Specification (Fourth Revision)
  • Explosive Atmospheres Part 2 Equipment Protection by Pressurized Enclosure “p” (First Revision)
  • Explosive Atmospheres Part 18 Equipment Protected by Encapsulation “m” (Second Revision)
  • Primary Batteries Part 4 Safety of Lithium Batteries (Third Revision)

These standards have been established on December 27, 2023.

It has also introduced the following standards:

  • In-Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Device — Automated Clinical Chemistry Analyzer Part 1 Wet Chemistry Analyzer
  • In-Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Device — Automated Clinical Chemistry Analyzer Part 2 Dry Chemistry Analyzer
  • Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control and Laboratory Use — EMC Requirements Part 2 Particular Requirement for In-vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Medical Equipment
  • Bullet Resistant Security Glass — Quality and Performance Requirements

All of the above standards stand established on December 28, 2023.

Additionally, the following standards have also been introduced:

  • Gas Cylinders — Design, Construction and Testing of Refillable Seamless Steel Gas Cylinders and Tubes Part 2 Quenched and Tempered Steel Cylinders and Tubes with Tensile Strength Greater than or Equal to 1 100 MPA
  • Gas Cylinders — Refillable Composite Reinforced Tubes of Water Capacity between 450 L and 3 000 L — Design, Construction and Testing
  • Gaseous Hydrogen — Fuelling Stations Part 1 General Requirements

These standards stand established on December 22, 2023.
