BIS introduces Standards for several Plant Products used in Traditional Medicine

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced 33 standards for plant products used in traditional medicine. This notification was published on 5th October, 2023.

Some of the standards so introduced are as follows:

  • IS 18393 : 2023 Ashoka [Saraca asoca (Roxb.) Willd.] Stem Bark for Use in Traditional Medicine — Specification
  • IS 18394 : 2023 Atasi (Linum usitatissimum L.) Seed for Use in Traditional Medicine —Specification
  • IS 18396 : 2023 Bhallataka (Semecarpus anacardium L.) Fruit for Use in Traditional Medicine — Specification
  • IS 18397 : 2023 Jambu [Syzygium cuminii (L.) Skeels] Seed for Use in Traditional Medicine — Specification
  • IS 18398 : 2023 Musta (Cyperus rotundus L.) Rhizome for Use in Traditional Medicine —Specification
  • IS 18399 : 2023 Priyala [Buchanania cochinchinensis (Lour.) M.R. Almeida] Seed for Use in Traditional Medicine — Specification

All of these 33 standards were established on 28th September, 2023.

Additionally, BIS has also introduced a new standard, for smart transportation, i.e. IS 18311 : 2023 Smart Community Infrastructures — Smart Transportation for Rapid Transit in and Between Large City Zones and their Surrounding Areas — Guidelines. This standard was also established on 28th September, 2023.
