Processing of Applications for UG MBBS Courses for Academic Year 2024-25 Underway

Government Introduces Amendments to Hazardous and Other Wastes Management Rules

One significant amendment includes the addition of clause 22A, which defines “deposition centers” as specified in the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, for the collection of domestic hazardous wastes. These deposition centers must obtain authorization from the State Pollution Control Board or the Pollution Control Committee concerned. These centers are also required to maintain records of providing domestic hazardous waste to the actual user or disposal facility and file annual returns to the respective authorities.

New Amendment Order Enhances Regulation of Lubricating Oils and Greases

It introduces a new clause, 9A, into the existing Lubricating Oils and Greases Regulation Order of 1987. Clause 9A pertains to the application process for inclusion under PART B of Schedule I of the regulation. Schedule I includes oil companies that are exempted form the definition of processor. According to the new clause, any company not specified under PART A of Schedule I and engaged in the business of processing lubricating oils and greases may apply for inclusion under PART B of the schedule.

New National Dental Commission Rules, 2024 Introduced to Enhance Dental Education

One significant provision involves the nomination of members to the Dental Advisory Council in states or union territories lacking Government Dental Colleges. In such cases, individuals with post-graduate degrees in dental sciences, registration with the National or State Register, and at least fifteen years of experience in the field will be appointed to the council.

New Regulations Establish Nurse Practitioner in Midwifery (NPM) Educator Program

These regulations focus on addressing the pressing need for trained healthcare professionals to cater to the approximately 30 million pregnancies occurring annually in India. The ‘Midwifery Services Initiative’ seeks to bolster reproductive, maternal, and neonatal health services by empowering nurse practitioners in midwifery through Midwifery Led Care Units (MLCUs).

New National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Rules, 2024, Established

The newly enacted rules outline the qualifications and experience required for nursing and midwifery leaders. The Commission is entrusted with several responsibilities such as undertaking studies to reduce the cost of nursing education in the country, suggesting measures to adopt modern technology and global best practices to make education more accessible, deciding the manner of hearing appeals against the decisions of Boards, consulting stakeholders while making regulations, etc.

Electricity Rules Amended to Address Renewable Energy Sources

These Amendment Rules have empowered the Central Government to establish distinct central pools for various categories of Renewable Energy Sources. These pools will operate for a duration of three years from the date specified in the order issued by the Central Government.

Institutions are requested to acknowledge receipt and take necessary action within the stipulated timeline. MARB  has also issued communications to medical institutions/ colleges regarding the submission of deficient documents/ information.
