The government has emphasized the need for stringent monitoring of food items commonly consumed during the festive period. These include samvat rice, buckwheat whole & flour (kuttu atta), chestnut whole & flour (singhara atta), fruits, vegetables, dry fruits & nuts, milk & milk products, and ready-to-eat savories like potato chips and sabudana namkeen mix.

BIS Revises Standards for Microbiology Tests of the Food Stuff

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has revised certain standards for microbiology tests of the food stuff. These notifications were published on March 21, 2024. These standards have been established on March 15, 2024. The previous versions of these standards shall stand withdrawn on April 14, 2024.

Registration of New Plant Varieties Permitted

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has added eight more plant varieties to its list of crop species eligible for registration. Persons eligible to obtain registrations can now also obtain registration for these additional plant varieties.

Extension In Deadline For Seeking NBEMS Accreditation

The NBEMS has extended the deadline for submission of applications seeking accreditation for DNB, DrNB, FNB, and Post MBBS Diploma. Initially set for March 15, 2024, the deadline for online application submission has been extended to April 30, 2024.

Government Tightens Regulations on Ash Utilization in Thermal Power Plants

Thermal Power Plants shall reserve a certain percentage of ash for supply to micro and small enterprises engaged in ash-based product manufacturing. These products include bricks, blocks, tiles, aggregates, cement sheets, pipes, and panels. They must be sold at concessional prices or through limited auctions as per guidelines issued by MoP.
