Medical Device Testing to Follow Stricter Standards in India

MoHFW Permits Import of Drugs Through Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram Airports

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has sanctioned Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram airports for the import of drugs into the country. Prior to this amendment, drugs could be imported only through airports located at Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Goa, Bengaluru and Visakhapatnam.

Certain Renewable Energy Plants To Be Exempt From ALMM & RLMM Requirements

Renewable energy plants located within Special Economic Zones (SEZs) or Export Oriented Units (EOUs) will be exempt from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) requirements for solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM) requirements for wind turbine models. These exemptions apply to all qualifying renewable energy plants commissioned by December 31, 2030.

Clarifications Issued on Battery Recycling and Labeling Requirements

The requirement for “minimum use of domestically recycled materials” in battery manufacturing applies to any type of material obtained from recycling waste products within India. For imported batteries or battery packs, the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration number can be displayed on either the equipment containing the battery or the packaging of the equipment containing the battery.

Extended Deadline for Battery Recycling Compliance and Reporting

Batteries covered under the 21 products listed in Schedule I of the old E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016, will follow the compliance timelines set under those rules for FY 2022-23. Compliance targets for all other batteries placed on the market in FY 2022-23 will be June 30, 2024.
