NMC directive on Post-Graduate Medical Student Housing

It is not obligatory for the students to reside in the hostels provided by colleges. NMC has received numerous complaints from post-graduate students alleging coercion by medical colleges/institutions to stay in designated hostels, accompanied by hefty charges. These coercive acts may result imposition of punitive actions, including monetary ‘penalties, reduction of seats, or suspension of admissions of colleges by NMC.

Maharashtra State Reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Act, 2024

The Government of Maharashtra on 20th February, 2024 issued the Maharashtra State Reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Act, 2024, which aims to provide reservation benefits to the Maratha Community within the state. The Act specifies the Maratha Community as a Socially and Educationally Backward Class, entitling them to reservation in educational institutions and public services. The reservations are set at 10% for educational seats and 10% for public service appointments.

FSSAI Issues Advisory on Time-Bound Processing of License Applications for Inspections

The advisory from FSSAI on 21st February, 2024 emphasizes the need for time-bound processing of applications for licenses marked for inspections. It outlines the categories for which pre-license inspections are mandated and provides instructions for designated officers regarding the conduct of inspections in non-mandatory categories. The document also highlights the monitoring and enforcement responsibilities of the Commissioners of Food Safety of States / UTs and Directors of Regional Offices, FSSAI, to ensure strict adherence to the prescribed timelines for licensing applications and inspections.
