The Assam Pollution Control Board on 31st August 2022, has directed all the packaged drinking water manufacturing units operating in the state to apply for registration as applicable through the centralized EPR portal within 15 days from the date of issue of this notice. If any units fail to comply with the direction, necessary action would be initiated as per the provisions of the environment (protection) Act,1986.
As per rule 13 of plastic waste management rules, 2016 all the producers, importers and brand owners (PIBOs) are required to obtain registration through the centralized EPR portal. Since the packaged drinking water manufacturing units fall under the definition of PIBOs either as producers or as a brand owner they must register themselves in the notified portal.
