Announcement Of Public Holiday In Maharashtra

The Government of Maharashtra has issued a notification on September 13th 2024 regarding the public holiday for Eid-e-Milad, which is typically observed on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi’ al-Awwal

Public Holiday Declaration: Initially, Eid-e-Milad was scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024, as part of the 24 public holidays declared for the year 2024.

  1. Change of Date: To accommodate a major Hindu festival, Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on September 17, 2024, and to ensure social harmony, the holiday for Eid-e-Milad has been rescheduled to Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
  2. Local Decision-Making: Outside the districts of Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburbs, the District Collectors in other districts have the authority to decide whether to uphold the original holiday on September 16, 2024, or to adjust it to September 18, 2024, based on the procession dates and local circumstances.
  3. Reason for Change: The change is made to avoid overlapping with significant events and to maintain peace and social harmony between the Muslim and Hindu communities .In essence, the holiday has been moved to avoid conflict with the Anant Chaturdashi celebrations and to accommodate the local arrangements for the Eid-e-Milad procession.
