A Sharp Turn: CPI Dips, Leaving Room for Cautious Optimism

The Ministry of Labour & Employment on March 24th 2025 has released the All-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Agricultural Labourers (CPI-AL) and Rural Labourers (CPI-RL) for February 2025. The data shows a decline of 7 points each for both indices compared to the previous month.

Key Highlights:

  • CPI-AL dropped to 1309 points in February 2025 from 1316 points in January 2025.
  • CPI-RL reduced to 1321 points from 1328 points in the same period.
  • The year-on-year inflation rates stood at 4.05% for CPI-AL and 4.10% for CPI-RL, significantly lower than the rates recorded in February 2024 (7.43% and 7.36%, respectively).
  • Compared to January 2025, inflation rates have also shown a decline (4.61% for CPI-AL and 4.73% for CPI-RL).

This drop in the CPI suggests a moderation in the cost of living for agricultural and rural workers, reflecting potential relief amidst fluctuating market trends.
