The Department of labour, Punjab vide its notification dated 20th April 2020 has relaxed certain provisions of factories Act 1948 by extending the working hours for optimum utilization of labor in the factories.
The government has extended the working hours in a day to 12 hours from the existing 9 hours for optimum utilization of labor.
It is further directed that the spread over shall not exceed 13 hours in one day instead of a maximum of ten and half hours provided. For additional hours of work, the workers shall be provided wages at a rate of twice his ordinary rate of wages.
The factories have also been directed to adhere to all precautionary measures advised by the Center and the State Governments for maintaining sanitation and social distancing.
These provisions will be valid for three months beginning 20th April 2020.
