FSSAI issues Food Hygiene and Safety guidance for Food Businesses to combat COVID-19

FSSAI has released a Guidance on 15.04.2020 for FBOs to follow in order to operate safely during lock down period. The guidance mandates safety and hygiene measures as precautionary steps against the Pandemic.

All regulations in Schedule 4 of FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulation, 2011 are now mandatory. As a result of this all business will have to comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) to ensure food safety.

These guidelines are applicable for employees/ food handlers working in establishments to prevent spread of COVID 19. The FBO’s shall maintain clean infrastructure and ensure their employees proper hygiene. Food Delivery Personals shall follow high personal hygiene and maintain proper distance while making a delivery. Recommendations for consumers is provided in the guidance.
