Guidelines for COVID-19 testing in private laboratories issued by ICMR

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) vide notification dated 21st March 2020 has issued guidelines regarding the tests for COVID 19 by private laboratories.

The guidelines states that the test might be given to only those patients who have been specifically prescribed the test by a qualified physician as per the ICMR guidelines. They also specify various safety measures to be followed by the testing labs while testing, taking samples and disposing of the material. All labs must be registered at https;//cvstatus.icmr.org.in. and must gain registration number from ICMR.

The ICMR through the guidelines has also restricted the cost of testing to a maximum of Rs. 4,500, but also encourages free or subsidized testing in the hour of National public health emergency.

The guidelines have been published so that labs to take precautionary measures regarding the testing of COVID 19.
