The Government of Karnataka vide Notification dated 07/ 12/ 2019, has issued Karnataka Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) (Amendment) Rules, 2019 (“Amendment Rules”). Amendments is made to Schedule I to give protectional discrimination to Kannadigas and disabled persons in industrial employment in the State of Karnataka.
Major highlights of the amendment:
The amendment directs certain Industrial Establishments operating or carrying on business in Karnataka to give priority appointment to Kannadigas who are Indian citizens and are residing in Karnataka.
The amendment directs directs every industrial establishment to provide not less than five percent of employment to persons with bench mark disabilities as defined in section 2(r) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
