Ministry of Labour provides various Welfare Schemes for unorganized workers

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has clarified the social security benefits provided to unorganized sector workers, through Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today. The government has provided various welfare schemes in order to provide social security benefits to the workers in the unorganized sector. Thereby the government has enacted the Unorganized Workers’ Social Security Act, 2008 which includes Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan (PM-SYM), Revised Integrated Housing Scheme (RIHS), etc.

The PMJJBY is available to people of age group 18 to 50 years and provides life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakh on payment of premium of Rs. 330 per annum.

PMSBY is available to people of age group 18 to 70 years and provides insurance coverage of Rs. 2 lakh on accidental death or full disability, and Rs. 1 lakh on partial disability on payment of premium of Rs. 12 per annum.

PM-SYM is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme which provides a minimum of assured pension of Rs.3, 000/- per month on attaining the age of 60 years.

Health care facilities are being provided to Beedi, Cine and Non Coal Mine workers and to their families through 10 Hospitals and 286 Dispensaries located across the country.
