Pharmacy Council of India Mandates Automatic Faculty Relieving After Resignation

The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has announced a change to its regulations regarding the relieving of faculty members from pharmacy institutions after resignation. This decision aims to address the persistent issue of institutions delaying or refusing to relieve faculty who have submitted their resignations. This circular was issued on March 10, 2025.

The PCI’s 421st Executive Committee, in its meeting on December 24, 2024, addressed the growing number of complaints from faculty members who were being held back by their institutions despite submitting their resignations through the DIGI-PHARMed Portal.

To resolve this issue, the PCI has decided to implement an automatic relieving system:

Faculty members will be automatically relieved after a period of 30 or 45 days from the date of their relieving request on the DIGI-PHARMed Portal. The exact duration depends on internal policy that the institution has.

Institutions are required to relieve faculty members within this 30 or 45-day period from the date of their relieving request on the portal.

If institutions fail to relieve faculty members within the stipulated timeframe, their names will be automatically removed from the institution’s portal.

This decision comes in response to numerous concerns raised by faculty members who faced undue delays and obstacles in being relieved from their positions after resigning. The PCI’s action aims to:

  1. Protect the rights of faculty members.
  2. Ensure a smooth and transparent resignation process.
  3. Prevent institutions from unfairly holding back faculty.

The PCI has directed institutions to take immediate necessary action to comply with these new regulations.
