In a significant move towards inclusivity and accessibility, the Government of Tripura has introduced the Equal Opportunity Policy for persons with disabilities working in the Factories & Boilers Organization under the Labour Department. The notification, released on March 3, 2025, aims to ensure that employees with disabilities are provided with the necessary support and facilities to effectively perform their duties.

Enhanced Accessibility and Amenities
The government has outlined provisions for employees with disabilities to ensure their workspaces are accessible. This includes the provision of wheelchairs, specialized furniture, wider doorways, ramps, accessible toilets, and more. These measures will allow employees with disabilities to work comfortably and effectively within the establishment.
Identification of Suitable Posts
A comprehensive list of posts that are suitable for persons with benchmark disabilities in the Factories & Boilers Organization will be available as an annexure to the notification. These positions are specifically identified to ensure that persons with disabilities can contribute their skills in appropriate roles.
Selection and Promotion Process
The selection and promotion of employees with disabilities will follow the guidelines established by the Government of Tripura, in line with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. These guidelines ensure a fair and transparent process for individuals with disabilities to grow within the organization.
Special Considerations for Transfers, Posting, and Accommodation
Employees with disabilities will receive preference when it comes to transfers, posting, and allocation of residential accommodation. This is part of the government’s commitment to providing equitable opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Leave Provisions for Employees with Physical Disabilities
Employees who have physical disabilities may be granted Special Casual Leave for up to 15 days annually for treatment or the replacement of artificial limbs. This leave can be utilized in one or more occasions, depending on the employee’s needs.
Child Care Leave for Women Employees with Disabled Children
Women employees with disabled or mentally challenged children will be granted Child Care Leave for up to two years (730 days), provided the child is under 22 years of age. This leave will help women employees balance their caregiving responsibilities while remaining committed to their work.
Grievance Redressal and Liaison Officers
A Grievance Redressal Officer (GRO) will be appointed to address complaints related to discrimination in employment. This officer will be responsible for investigating complaints and ensuring corrective action is taken. Additionally, a Liaison Officer will be designated to manage the recruitment of persons with disabilities and ensure the provision of necessary facilities and amenities.
