In light of the upcoming Haryana General Elections, as per letter dated 04.02.2025 from the State Election Commission, the Government of Haryana has announced specific holidays for workers in shops and commercial establishments.
The elections will be held on 2nd March 2025 (Sunday) for the Mayors and Members of 08 Municipal Corporations (excluding the Municipal Corporation, Panipat), and for Presidents and Members of 04 Municipal Councils and 21 Municipal Committees, along with by-elections for various positions. The elections for the seats of Mayors and Members of the Municipal Corporation, Panipat, will take place on 9th March 2025 (Sunday).
To ensure that all workers and employees in shops and commercial establishments can exercise their right to vote, the Governor of Haryana, in accordance with Section 28 of the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, has declared Sunday, 2nd March 2025, and Sunday, 9th March 2025, as holidays with wages. This holiday is specifically for employees who are enrolled as voters in the relevant electoral jurisdictions, enabling them to participate in the elections.
This move is intended to provide an opportunity for all eligible workers to cast their votes in these crucial local body elections.
