Jute Commissioner Sets Maximum Ex-Factory Prices for Jute Bags Amid Market Regulation

The Jute Commissioner has issued a final order fixing the maximum ex-factory prices for 580gm ‘Type-A’ and ‘Type-B’ jute bags, effective for February 2025. This decision, made under the Jute and Jute Textiles Control Order, 2016, aims to regulate the market and ensure fair pricing for these essential packaging materials. This notification was published on February 20, 2025.

The fixed prices are as follows:

B-Twill Sacking (580 gms) with 3% Linkage:

  1. Type A: Rs. 107,746.00 per metric ton (MT) or Rs. 6,249.24 per 100 bags.
  2. Type B: Rs. 107,746.00 per MT or Rs. 6,249.24 per 100 bags.

B-Twill Sacking (580 gms) without Linkage:

  1. Type A: Rs. 107,646.00 per MT or Rs. 6,243.47 per 100 bags.
  2. Type B: Rs. 107,646.00 per MT or Rs. 6,243.47 per 100 bags.

Bag Specifications and Markings

The order specifies that the bags must adhere to the following standards:

  • Size: 94cm x 57 cm/HD.
  • Mass: 580 grams per bag.
  • Ends per dm and pecks per dm: As specified in BIS Specification IS: 16186:2014.
  • Additional identification markings as per existing orders/instructions.
  • Each bag must be printed/marked with an emblem specified in the PCSO issued by the Office of the Jute Commissioner, Kolkata.
  • The manufacturing mill’s name and BIS certification marking must also be printed on each bag.
  • The average minimum breaking strength must meet the BIS specification.

Tax Considerations

The prices fixed by this notification are exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST), which will be added to the ex-factory price and paid by the purchaser.
