The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released draft amendments to the Ammonium Nitrate Rules, 2012. These proposed changes aim to streamline regulations for entities dealing with ammonium nitrate, a potentially hazardous material.
The draft amendments are open for public comment until February 12, 2025. Individuals can submit feedback to the DPIIT via mail or email.
Changes Proposed:
- Extended Validity Periods: The draft proposes doubling the validity period for:
- Licenses to manufacture ammonium nitrate (Rule 32)
- Licenses to store ammonium nitrate (Rule 36(1))
- This extension reduces the frequency of required renewals, potentially saving businesses time and resources associated with the renewal process.
The DPIIT encourages all interested parties to review the draft and submit comments or suggestions within the specified timeframe.
