Ministry of Labour and Employment Extends Public Utility Service Status to Uranium Industry

The Ministry of Labour and Employment on December 20,2024 has announced an extension of public utility service designation for services engaged in the Uranium industry under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.

The services in the Uranium industry were first declared as public utility services for a period of six months, beginning May 7, 2024, through a notification issued on that date. However, the extension could not be made previously.

Acknowledging the ongoing importance of the industry to public interest, the Central Government has now decided to extend the public utility service status for another six months, effective from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

This declaration, made in accordance with the powers granted by the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, is intended to maintain the smooth operation of essential services within the Uranium industry and prevent disruptions that may impact national interests.

Extension Period : December 20th 2024 to June 20th 2025
