The Indian government’s National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) scheme continues to expand its reach, connecting farmers and traders through a digital platform for transparent and competitive agricultural commodity trading. As of October 31, 2024, 1389 mandis across 23 states and 4 Union Territories (UTs) have been integrated with the e-NAM platform.
e-NAM facilitates online trading of agricultural and horticultural commodities, enabling farmers to discover fair prices for their produce through a competitive online bidding system. This system promotes transparency and eliminates intermediaries, ensuring better returns for farmers.
Key Achievements
- 389 mandis across 23 states and 4 UTs are now part of the e-NAM network.
- The platform has registered 1.78 crore farmers, 2.62 lakh traders, and over 4250 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
- Transactions worth ₹3.79 lakh crore have been recorded on the e-NAM platform, demonstrating its significant impact on agricultural trade.
Demand-Driven Expansion
The integration of mandis onto the e-NAM platform is a demand-driven process. State Governments and UTs submit proposals based on their needs and preparedness. Mandis are integrated only after meeting the required infrastructure and technical standards outlined in the e-NAM operational guidelines. This ensures the smooth and efficient functioning of the platform across all connected mandis.
e-NAM is playing a crucial role in modernizing India’s agricultural marketing system, empowering farmers with better price discovery and facilitating seamless trade across the country. The continued expansion of the platform promises to further benefit the agricultural sector and contribute to the growth of the rural economy.
