Government Reconstitutes Committee to Determine Compensation for Faulty ASR Hip Implants

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) has reconstituted a Central Expert Committee to address issues related to faulty ASR hip implants manufactured by DePuy International Limited (now Johnson & Johnson Private Limited). This pubic notice was issued on December 2, 2024.

These implants were imported by DePuy Medical Private Limited, Mumbai (also now Johnson & Johnson Private Limited). The committee will determine the amount of compensation admissible to affected patients, along with their required medical management.

Who is Eligible?

Patients who received these faulty ASR hip implants and are suffering from disability or other health issues due to the implants can apply for compensation.

How to Apply?

Patients can choose to approach either the Central Expert Committee or a State Level Committee for their convenience.

Central Expert Committee

Patients can submit an application by email to legalcell@cdsco.nic.in.

Alternatively, send a hard copy by post or hand delivery to Legal Cell, CDSCO (HO), FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi – 110 002.

Patients who already submitted claims to State or Central Committees previously do not need to re-apply.

For Inquiries Regarding State Level Committees patients can contact the concerned State/UT Drugs Controller, who will serve as the Secretary of the State Level Committee.

It is recommended that patients experiencing complications from ASR hip implants consult their doctor and explore their eligibility for this compensation program.
