Ministry of Power Proposes Amendments to EV Charging Infrastructure Guidelines

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has proposed amendments to the Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure-2024. This office memorandum was issued on November 28, 2024.

These amendments aim to streamline the process of setting up EV charging stations and promote the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in India.

The definition of EV Charging Infrastructure has been expanded to include battery swapping stations, recognizing the growing importance of this technology in the EV ecosystem.

State governments are encouraged to ensure that EV charging stations are allowed to operate 24/7 to meet the diverse needs of EV users.

Government entities are advised to adopt a technology-agnostic approach when allocating public land for EV charging stations, allowing for the deployment of both charging and battery swapping solutions.

State Nodal Agencies will play a crucial role in coordinating with DISCOMs and SERCs to facilitate electricity connections for public, community, workplace, and e-bus depot charging stations. States have the flexibility to designate their own Nodal Agencies, including DISCOMs, SPSUs, or ULBs.

In this regard, requisite comments, if any, on the aforesaid amendment is requested to be furnished to this Ministry at saket-upsc@gov.in and vikas.dhirwan@gov.in within three weeks.
