Government of Delhi Notifies Revised Minimum Wages

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi in its order dated 23rd October 2019 , has revised the minimum wages for unskilled and skilled scheduled workers.

The Delhi government earlier issued a notification dated March 2017  to increase the minimum wages but the Delhi high court quashed the above notification asking the government to “redo the exercise” in accordance with the procedure prescribed by the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.

However, the SC approved the Delhi government’s petition based on average prices of food items and clothing component and other prescribed percentage of other components arrived fresh as per provisions of the Minimum Wages Act and after notifying Minimum Wages Advisory Board. Therefore the government has issued this present notification revising the minimum wages.

The enhanced minimum wages for unskilled workers have been fixed at Rs 14,806 per month, for semi-skilled workers at Rs 16,248 per month and for skilled workers at Rs 17,924 per month. Meanwhile, skilled workers but not graduates will get a minimum wage of Rs. 17,924 and the Graduates would get Rs. 19, 522 per month. The Dearness Allowance will be payable in the basis of the six monthly average index numbers of January to June and July to December, on 1st April and 1st October respectively.
