Release Time for Consumer Price Index & Index of Industrial Production Revised

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has announced a change in the release timings for two critical economic indicators: the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). A press release on this modification was issued on November 5, 2024.

Previously, both CPI and IIP data were released on the 12th of each month. CPI release was at 5:30 PM (next working day if the 12th was a holiday). IIP release was on the previous working day if the 12th was a holiday.

Now, the MoSPI has decided that CPI and IIP data will be released at 4:00 PM on the 12th of each month. If the 12th falls on a holiday, the release will be on the next working day for CPI and the previous working day for IIP.

Rationale for the Change

The new release time aligns with the closing hours of major financial markets in India. This ensures that the dissemination of CPI data does not disrupt active trading activity.

This change reflects MoSPI’s commitment to data transparency and accessibility.

Financial analysts, businesses, and policymakers can now access the latest inflation and industrial output data earlier in the day, allowing them to make more informed decisions.

The next release of CPI and IIP data, for October 2024, will be available on November 12, 2024, at 4:00 PM on the MoSPI website.
