CERC Indian Electricity Grid Code (First Amendment) Regulations, 2024

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has introduced new regulations aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of India’s electricity grid.

The regulations, known as the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Indian Electricity Grid Code) (First Amendment) Regulations, 2024, introduce several key changes:

  • limits on the duration of infirm power injection for different types of generating stations, including renewable energy sources (REGs) and energy storage systems (ESS).
  • clarify the timing for the commencement of scheduling for newly commissioned generating stations.
  • provide for compensation to thermal power plants operating below their normative levels.
  • allow for greater flexibility in scheduling, including the ability to revise declared capacity and schedules under certain conditions.
  • emphasize the importance of grid stability and introduce measures to ensure system security.

These amendments are expected to enhance the operational efficiency of the Indian electricity grid, promote the integration of renewable energy sources, and ensure reliable power supply to consumers.
