Exciting News for the Indian Tea Industry: Launch of the Tea Development & Promotion Scheme

The Tea Board on October 3rd 2024 notified regarding the Announcement of the Tea Development & Promotion Scheme (TD&PS) with an overall budget of Rs 664.09 Crore for implementation during the remaining period of Fifteenth Finance Commission Cycle from 2023-24 to 2025-26

Key Components of the TD&PS

The TD&PS focuses on several critical areas that aim to protect, grow, and sustain the Indian tea sector.

  1. Plantation Development & Quality Upgradation: Enhancing the quality of tea plantations to ensure superior production.
  2. Tea Promotion and Market Support: Initiatives to promote Indian tea in domestic and international markets.
  3. Technological Intervention: Incorporating modern technologies to improve production processes.
  4. Research and Development: Investing in research to innovate and solve challenges faced by the industry.
  5. Welfare and Capacity Building: Fostering the skills and well-being of those involved in tea production.

Application Process

Details regarding eligibility criteria, unit costs, scale of assistance, and procedures for claiming subsidies will be provided in an accompanying document. Stakeholders in the tea industry can start submitting applications for various activities beginning October 15, 2024.
