Government Removes Export Restrictions on Onions And Extends Import Period for Yellow Peas

The Central Government has announced changes to the export policies for onions and import policies for yellow peas. These notifications were issued on September 13, 2024.

These policy changes aim to facilitate trade and ensure adequate supply of these commodities in the domestic market.

Export Policy for Onions

The government has removed the Minimum Export Price (MEP) for onion exports, effective immediately. Onions can now be exported freely without any MEP restrictions.

Prior to this notification, export of onions was subject to a MEP of USD 550 per Metric Ton (MT).

Import Policy for Yellow Peas

The import period for yellow peas under ITC(HS) Code 07131010 has been extended from October 31, 2024, to December 31, 2024.

Yellow peas can be imported freely without any Minimum Import Price (MIP) or port restrictions, subject to registration under the online Import Monitoring System. This applies to all import consignments where Bill of Lading is issued on or before December 31, 2024.
