National Medical Commission Releases Revised CBME Guidelines

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released revised Guidelines for Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) Curriculum for 2024. These guidelines incorporate changes based on feedback received from stakeholders on the Disability Guidelines and other aspects of the curriculum. These revised guidelines were published on September 12, 2024.

It may be recalled that the NMC had first published the CBME Guidelines 2024 on August 31, 2024. Subsequently, by a notice dated September 5, 2024, the NMC had withdrawn and canceled the CBME Guidelines 2024.

Now, by the present notice, the NMC has published revised CBME Curriculum Guidelines 2024.

The notice explains that the Disability Guidelines (Annexure-14 of the CBME Guidelines 2024) have been updated to address the concerns raised by stakeholders.

Disability Guidelines

According to the revised CBME Guidelines 2024, the disability guidelines stipulated under CBME Guidelines 2023 dated August 1, 2023 shall be applicable for the academic year 2024-25.

Furthermore, the guidelines for admission of students in MBBS for the academic year 2025-26 onwards with ‘specified disabilities’ under the Rights Of Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016 will be notified separately.

Additionally, the CBME Topics and Competencies Volume-I, II, and III have also been revised to reflect the latest medical knowledge and best practices.

The revised guidelines will be effective from the MBBS batch of 2024-25 onwards, replacing the previous guidelines issued by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB).
