CDSCO Imposes Limit on Cosmetic Product Applications

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has implemented a new regulation restricting the number of cosmetic products that can be included in a single online application submitted through the SUGAM portal. This circular was dated August 9, 2024.

Effective from August 16, 2024, applicants can now submit a maximum of fifty products per application.

This decision is a direct response to the increasing volume of cosmetic product registrations and import applications. By limiting the number of products per application, the CDSCO aims to streamline the application process and expedite the review and approval timelines in accordance with the Cosmetics Rules, 2020. This measure aligns with the broader goal of efficient governance and improved service delivery.

The implementation of this regulation is expected to have a significant impact on the cosmetic industry. Companies will need to adjust their application strategies to comply with the new limit.
