FSSAI Warns Against Use of Non-Standardized Ingredients in Fruit Juices

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a stern warning to food business operators (FBOs) against adding non-standardized ingredients to fruit juices. This warning was issued through an advisory dated July 31, 2024.

The advisory highlights the concern over the use of ingredients like ‘Deionized apple juice concentrate’, which is not permitted under the Food Safety and Standards Regulations.

FBOs have been directed to obtain approval for such non-specified food ingredients under the FSS (Approval for Non-Specific Food and Food Ingredients) Regulation, 2017. Additionally, all claims made on product labels and advertisements must adhere to the FSS (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018 and FSS (Labelling & Display) Regulations, 2020.

The FSSAI has emphasized strict compliance with these regulations to ensure the safety and quality of fruit juices consumed by the public.
