Notification: Worker Exemption for Bye-Election Voting in Haryana

In a recent notification dated July 5, 2024, the Labour Department of Haryana announced a significant exemption for adult workers employed in factories across the state. This exemption, granted under the authority vested by the Factories Act, 1948, and other pertinent regulations, pertains specifically to the upcoming bye-elections in the Legislative Assemblies of Uttarakhand and Punjab, scheduled for July 10, 2024.

The purpose of this exemption is to facilitate the democratic right to vote, ensuring that eligible workers can actively participate in the electoral process without hindrance. Accordingly, adult workers who are registered as voters in the constituencies of 04-Badrinath and 33-Manglour (Uttarakhand) and 34-Jalandhar West (SC) (Punjab) are exempt from the provisions of the Factories Act for the week from 07-07-2024 to 13-07-2024. Specifically, no worker falling under this category shall be compelled or permitted to work on July 10, 2024 (Wednesday), the day of the elections.

This initiative underscores the state’s commitment to democratic values and ensuring maximum participation in the electoral process. It reflects a proactive approach towards enabling citizens to exercise their fundamental right to vote effectively.
