New Committee Oversees Verification in Power Sector Procurement

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has announced changes to the committee responsible for verifying local content claims in power sector procurement. These changes were published through an order dated June 20, 2024.

The MoP’s “Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India)” program prioritizes domestically manufactured goods and services in the power sector. Companies seeking these benefits must demonstrate a certain level of local content.

Verification Committee Restructured

The present order announces the reconstitution of the committee responsible for independently verifying self-declarations and audit reports submitted by companies claiming local content.

The revised committee is as follows:

  1. Chairperson: Member (Power System) from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA)
  2. Members: Chief Engineers from various departments within the CEA (PSETD, HETD, TETD, DP&M, RP&T)
  3. External Expert (as chosen by the CEA)
  4. Convener: Chief Engineer (ET&I) from the CEA

All other aspects of the original order dated November 16, 2021, remain in effect.
