The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a clarification regarding the eligibility of foreign medical graduates for mandatory internship positions in India. This public notice was issued on June 19, 2024.
This clarification is in addition to the previous public notice dated June 7, 2024.
The NMC has clarified that students who passed an exam equivalent to India’s MBBS degree are eligible for a one-year internship, even if they took online classes in lieu of some physical classes, provided they subsequently completed sufficient compensatory onsite classes.
All other eligibility requirements outlined in the December 7, 2023 public notice remain unchanged.
This clarification applies to students from all countries who have passed an MBBS equivalent exam abroad.
