Draft CERC Indian Electricity Grid Code (First Amendment) Regulations, 2024

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has proposed amendments to the Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC). These draft regulations are titled Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Indian Electricity Grid Code) (First Amendment) Regulations, 2024.

The draft amendments inter-alia provide that generating stations other than Renewable Energy Generating Stations (REGS) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS) cannot inject infirm power for more than one year from the date they first synchronize with the grid.

REGS and ESS shall have a stricter limit of 45 days for infirm power injection, starting from the date of approval by the Forum for Technological Collaboration (FTC).

Extension Process for REGS and ESS:

REGS and ESS can apply for an extension to the permissible infirm power injection period. Applications for extensions up to six months go to the respective Regional Load Dispatch Center (RLDC) with detailed justification, submitted at least 10 days before the initial limit expires. Extensions exceeding six months require CERC approval, with applications submitted at least 30 days before the initial limit expires.

Seeking Public Input

The CERC is inviting comments, suggestions, and objections from stakeholders and interested individuals on the proposed amendments. Submissions must be received by July 15, 2024. They must be sent via email to secy@cercind.gov.in or shilpa@cercind.gov.in.

Online Submissions

Registered users can also submit feedback through the SAUDAMINI Portal using the eRegulation link on the e-filing homepage.

The CERC emphasizes that comments received after the deadline may not be considered when finalizing the regulations. Public participation is crucial in ensuring the amendments effectively address the needs of the electricity sector.
