Empowering Disabled Workers in Madhya Pradesh’s Construction Sector

In a significant move towards inclusivity, the Madhya Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has launched the “Building and Other Construction Disability Assistance Grant Scheme, 2024.” Effective April 1, 2023, this scheme aims to assist disabled construction workers by providing grants for essential equipment such as motorized tricycles. Eligibility hinges on possessing a Unique Disability ID (UDID) with a disability of 40% or more, along with valid identity cards and registration with the Board. This notification was published on June 14, 2024.

Applications are processed online, requiring the submission of documents like the UDID, purchase bills, and photos demonstrating equipment use. The initiative emphasizes accountability through periodic beneficiary verifications and penalties for fraudulent claims. By prioritizing accessibility and empowerment, Madhya Pradesh sets a commendable example in supporting its disabled construction workforce, ensuring they can navigate their work and daily lives with dignity and independence.
