Unlocking Opportunities: Telangana’s IT Industry Exemption

In a bid to foster growth and innovation within Telangana’s thriving information technology sector, the government has issued a landmark exemption from certain provisions of the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988. Effective May 30, 2024, this exemption applies specifically to information technology-enabled services (ITES) and information technology establishments across the state. This notification was published on June 7, 2024.

Under this exemption, companies operating within these sectors are relieved from adhering to key sections of the Act for a duration of four years. However, this exemption is not without conditions. Key among them are stipulations regarding working hours, employee welfare measures, and security protocols, ensuring that employee rights and safety remain paramount.

This move is poised to bolster the IT industry’s competitiveness, encouraging innovation and investment while simultaneously safeguarding the well-being of the workforce. By striking a balance between regulatory flexibility and employee protection, Telangana paves the way for a dynamic and sustainable future in its IT landscape.
