BIS Issues Standards On Sanitary Appliances, Plywood, Health Care Products and Mechanical Equipment

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued revised certain standards on Sanitary Appliances, Plywood, Health Care Products and Mechanical Equipment. These notifications were published on May 30 and June 4, 2024.

The BIS has revised standards on the following equipment:

  • Steel Cylinders for Compressed Gases
  • Procedure for Splash Proof Testing of Automotive Vehicles
  • Cranes

It has also introduced new standards on the following:

  • Arc Welding Equipment
  • Round Steel Wire Rope Used as Balance Ropes in Mines
  • Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Structures and
  • BMX Bicycles

These standards were established on May 24, 2024 and their previous versions, if any, will be withdrawn from June 24, 2024.

The BIS has revised standards on Vitreous China Sanitary Appliances. This includes specifications on the following specific requirements:

  • Washdown Water Closets
  • Universal Water Closets and
  • Washdown Wall Mounted Water Closets

These revised standards have been established on May 29, 2024 and their previous shall be withdrawn from November 29, 2024.

Additionally, BIS has introduced amendments to the standard of Methods of Test for Plywood. This standard pertains to the determination of Glue Shear Strength. This will be the 4th amendment to this standard. It has been established on May 28, 2024. The previous standard without this amendment will continue in force till August 27, 2024.

BIS has also introduced and amendment in the standard for Sterilization of Health Care Products. This standard deals with ‘Radiation Part 1 Requirements for Development, Validation and Routine Control of a Sterilization Process for Medical Devices.’

This is the second amendment of this standard. This amendment has been established on May 21, 2024, however, the standard without this amendment will continue in force till June 20, 2024.
