The Dental Council of India (DCI) has announced a delay in final year exams for the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) program. This decision comes in consideration of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to the academic schedule. The DCI issued a reminder dated May 24, 2024, to all dental colleges on the timeline of the MDS program.
The notification highlights a revised timeline for the 2021-2022 MDS batch. Due to pandemic restrictions, the course commencement date was pushed back to October 18, 2021, with a student admission deadline of November 10, 2021.
Citing the Master of Dental Surgery Course Regulations, 2017 the DCI emphasizes that the MDS program requires three full academic years of training. This includes the final year examination period.
Therefore, all universities offering MDS programs are instructed to adhere to the three-year timeframe. Final year exams cannot be conducted before the completion of the entire course duration. This ensures students receive the necessary training stipulated by the regulations.
