The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) has issued a public notice clarifying the applicability of its Guidelines for Undergraduate Courses under the Establishment of New Medical Institutions, Starting of New Medical Courses, Increase of Seats for Existing Courses, and Assessment and Rating Regulations, 2023. These regulations are commonly called the UG-MSR. This clarification was dated on May 2, 2024.
It may be recalled that the UGMEB had notified the UG-MSR on August 16, 2023.
Following a High Court order dated March 27, 2024, the UGMEB clarifies that these guidelines:
- Apply only to institutions and courses established or started after August 16, 2023.
- Are prospective in nature, meaning they do not apply retroactively.
