The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India in its notification dated 28th August, 2019 has published a draft Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2019

According to the draft rules;

  • A manufacturer, who fortifies any food, is required to ensure that the declared value of micronutrients on label of the concerned food falls within the minimum and maximum levels specified in Schedule-I during the declared shelf life of the products.
  • A proviso stating that the tolerance of +/- 10 per cent of the declared value of micronutrients on the label may be allowed for the purposes of compliance and analysis at any point in time within declared shelf life of the product, has been added to regulations 7 relating to “Packaging and Labelling Requirements” after sub-regulation (3).

Any Objections or suggestion regarding the draft rules shall be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Food and Drug Administration Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Dlehi-110002, or may be sent at regulation@fssai.gov.in within 30days from the date on which the copies of the Official Gazette in which this notification is published
