Delhi’s air quality has shown a remarkable improvement in April 2024, marking a positive shift compared to recent years. This positive trend is attributed to favorable weather conditions and consistent efforts by the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) along with various stakeholders.
April 2024 saw the highest number of “Good to Moderate” air quality days (23) in Delhi since 2018 (excluding the 2020 lockdown year). This surpasses figures from previous years: 17 (2023), 0 (2022), 18 (2021), 30 (2020), 12 (2019), and 8 (2018).
Additionally, the number of days with an Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 200 (considered “Poor” to “Severe”) also significantly decreased to just 7 in April 2024. This is a significant improvement compared to previous years’ April: 13 (2023), 30 (2022), 12 (2021), 18 (2019), and 22 (2018).
Furthermore, Delhi’s average AQI in April 2024 remained in the “Moderate” category (below 200), marking the second-lowest monthly average for April since 2018 (excluding the lockdown year).
Daily average concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter, major air pollutants, also witnessed a significant reduction compared to previous Aprils.
The CAQM is actively collaborating with stakeholders to implement effective measures for controlling air pollution and improving overall air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR).
