FSSAI To Upskill Food Handlers in Government Offices

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is taking a proactive step towards ensuring food safety in government offices across the National Capital. This initiative is part of their nationwide Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) program.

FSSAI has begun training food handlers at State/UT Bhawans (guest houses) and canteens in government office buildings. This training covers vital aspects like food safety regulations, hygiene practices, allergen management, and food handling procedures.

Sessions have already been conducted in four State Bhawans and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). Training for more Bhawans and all government office canteens is planned in the coming days.

Benefits of the Program

  • This initiative aims to significantly enhance food safety standards in government offices.
  • Educated food handlers can contribute to a safer and healthier food environment for employees.
  • It aligns with the goal of training 25 lakh food business operators in 3 years, announced by the Health Minister.

What is the FoSTaC Program?

FoSTaC is a flagship program designed to train food handlers involved in food businesses. The training covers various topics relevant to food safety and hygiene. Successful participants receive a Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) certificate, recognized nationwide.

In FY 2023-24 alone, over 3.5 lakh food handlers have been trained under FoSTaC.

By extending FoSTaC training to government offices, FSSAI empowers individuals across the food supply chain. This initiative equips food handlers with the knowledge and skills to maintain safe food handling practices. Ultimately, this leads to a safer and healthier dining experience for government employees.
