Training To Boost Safety Culture In Industrial Radiography Facilities

The Eastern and Southern Regional Regulatory Centers (ERRC and SRRC) of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has organized awareness programs on “Radiation Safety & Regulatory Inspection of Industrial Radiography Facilities.” The programs were held on March 1, 2024.

The programs aimed to improve safety culture within industrial radiography facilities in West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Around 120 participants, including licensees, Radiological Safety Officers (RSOs), and radiation workers, attended the sessions.

Focus on Safe Practices

Experts from the ERRC and SRRC addressed key topics related to radiation safety in industrial radiography. These included:

  • Non-destructive testing using ionizing radiation
  • Hazards associated with Industrial Gamma Radiography Equipment (IGREDs), especially portable devices
  • Safe handling procedures for radiation sources and equipment
  • Real-world incidents and lessons learned
  • AERB’s role in protecting workers and the public from harmful radiation exposure
Enhancing Safety Culture

The programs also emphasized the importance of implementing appropriate safety measures to minimize risks associated with industrial radiography. By raising awareness and promoting best practices, the AERB strives to ensure a safe working environment for personnel in these facilities and the surrounding communities.
